Marquis de Sade's Justine (1977)

Director: Chris Boger

Starring: Koo stark, Martin Potter, Lydia Lisle, Katherine Kath, Hope Jackman, Barry McGinn, Louis Ife, Maggie Peterson, David Masterman

More info: IMDb

Tagline: There NEVER was a woman like JUSTINE.

Plot: Justine is a nubile young virgin cast out of a French orphanage and thrust into a depraved world of prostitution, predatory lesbians, a fugitive murderess, bondage, branding, and one supremely sadistic monk. It's a twisted tale of strange desires, perverse pleasures and the ultimate corruption of innocence as told by the Marquis de Sade.

My rating: 6/10

Will I watch it again? No.

Part of the Nunsploitation Project (July & August 2013). Click here for more naughty nun insanity!

Would you believe this is the first feature film for the GREAT cinematographer, Roger Deakins?  I was shocked.  Gotta start somewhere.  Man, things don't go well for these two sisters.  You get the idea that everyone was shitty back then in France.  Set in 18th Century France, JUSTINE starts out as a somewhat sleazy Nunsploitation picture for the first 25 minutes and then it becomes a somewhat sleaze bodice ripper with the girls' spending a great deal of time in a high class brothel.

It was kind of nice having the two types of films together, breaking it up like they did.  It's a rough life for these two girls all the way to the end, and boy is that end a downer.  This story has been filmed a few times but this is the first version I've seen.  It'd be interesting to see the others for comparison. This one isn't the sleazefest that you'd think it would be considering the subject and author but there's enough to hold some interest although most of it is during the first third of the picture.
