School of the Holy Beast (1974)

Director: Noribumi Suzuki

Starring: Yumi Takigawa, Emiko Yamauchi, Yayoi Watanabe, Ryouko Ima, Harumi Tajima, Yuuko Oribe, Marie Antoinette, Emi Shiro, Rie Saotome

More info: IMDb

Plot: Maya (Takigawa), a young Japanese woman in search of her missing mother, discovers a sinister secret deep within the Sacred Heart Convent. After taking religious vows to gain entry into the convent where her mother was last seen, she descends into a hedonistic world where sinful archbishops and whip-wielding nuns torment her in the most unholy manner imaginable.

My rating: 7.5/10

Will I watch it again? Yes.

Part of the Nunsploitation Project (July & August 2013). Click here for more naughty nun insanity!

Since we started this Nunsploitation journey a couple of weeks ago we've finally gotten out of Europe and over to Japan for their first picture of this type.  What's great about it, besides all of the sleaze we've come to love from that country at that time, is that it's also a Pinky Violence flick and a fun one at that.

Yeah, it has!

It's a great looking film with some creative and fun editing, making a point without showing it completely.

It's not without a criminal element (which makes another statement)...

It's also got a fair amount of humor but not in a broad, slapstick-y way (but there is one male who is spastic and sexually deprived but only in a brief scene, thankfully).

The plot thickens halfway into the picture when we discover the deep, dark secret of the convent and things get more perverse.

HOLY BEAST isn't without its failings which is slower final third of the film.  It wouldn't be so bad if the first two thirds wasn't so strong and well paced.  Fortunately there are some reveals which set the revenge portion into motion and the final few minutes are great, especially Maya's final fuck you to...well, you'll just have to watch the picture to find out.  It's worth it.
