My rating: 6.5/10

Will I watch it again? Probably not.

While this film commands a severe suspension of disbelief, it was fun.  While many of the characters are one dimensional, a few of the actors made them enjoyable (particularly Hunnam (Raleigh) and Kikuchi (Mako - I LOVED her hair style with that beautiful shade of blue in the front...HOT!) while others didn't (wow, I've never seen Elba (Stacker) give so little effort.).  And speaking of Elba, his character is so poorly written that you will guess almost from the beginning what his fate will be and you'll be hearing his upcoming lines in your head before they happen.  The action is plentiful and great to look at.  It's remarkable, though, how the monsters only come out at night and when the weather's bad.  I think the only clear day shot is at the end.  I guess it's a lot easier to have your CGI fights at night with water flying everywhere (to hide mistakes maybe?).  But that said, the CGI is fantastic.  I watched this in IMAX 3D and it was great.

While the plot holes and issues aren't as abundant as PROMETHEUS (2012) I did find myself thinking of the shitty logic and choices in that picture.  There's a scene where the aliens send out an electromagnetic burst that renders everything in that radius worthless, i.e. it took out the electricity.  One of the pilots of a giant robot says they can spring into action and save the day because they're not digital - they're analog!  Really?  A giant robot that's controlled by two people inside it whose brains are connected in order to run the monstrosity is analog and not digital?  Wow.  I literally guffawed out loud.  "HA!".   There are a lot of people who LOVE this picture and are having multiple, deep orgasms over it.  I'm not one of them but I did enjoy it.  It's worth seeing but don't look for anything other than what the trailer looks to deliver.
