Tarzan and the Lost Safari (1957)

Director: H. Bruce Humberstone

Starring: Gordon Scott, Robert Beatty, Yolande Donian, Betta St. John, Wilfrid Hyde-White, George Coulouris, Peter Arne, Orlando Martins

More info: IMDb

Tagline: THE NEW TARZAN! GREATEST OF ALL! FIRST TIME IN COLOR!

Plot: After an airplane crashes in the jungle, Tarzan rescues its five occupants who were en route to Europe via Cairo. The private plane was owned by Dick Penrod, an avid flyer whose hobby has created a rift between him and his wife Diana. After their rescue, they also encounter a professional hunter who offers to escort them to the coast. He has other plans for them however having already made a deal with a local tribal chief. In the end, it's left to Tarzan to rescue them all a second time.

My rating: 6/10

Will I watch it again? Nope.

Whatever you do, don't get used to the AWESOMENESS that is TARZAN'S GREATEST ADVENTURE (1959) before you watch this one.  Scott does a pretty good job but he's doing the "Me, Tarzan!" speak.  It was so much nicer in TGA where he was articulate (and much better).  This picture is a middle of the road jungle adventure that relies too heavily on sound stages and Cheetah for comic relief (I can't stand the silly music that's played every time she's on screen).  The action is OK but there's nothing that really stood out except for the last scene where the rope suspension bridge breaks and Tarzan and the bad guy are climbing up (just like in INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM (1984) and there's even spears being chucked at them!).  That was super cool.  Other than that piece of neatness I just kept thinking about how stupendously fun TGA was and how much I'd like to see it again and that's not a good sign for this flick.
