SS Camp 5: Women's Hell (1977)

Director: Sergio Garrone

Starring: Paola Corazzi, Rita Manna, Giorgio Cerioni, Serafino Profumo, Attilio Dottesio, Patrizia Melega

More info: IMDb

Plot: During the last days of WW2, several female prisoners arrive at Camp 5 to work as sex slaves for officers and guinea pigs for horrific experiments by Nazi doctors who are trying to find a cure for burns. But these women are not going to die without a fight... Can they stay alive until the closing Red army comes to their rescue?

My rating: 4.5/10

Will I watch it again? Nah.

The opening credits roll over still images of actual dead concentration camp victims. Is Garrone being tasteless or does he have something to say? Well, considering this is a blatant Nazisploitation/women in prison picture, I'd say it's in poor taste. It gets even worse at the end for the final shot.

Yeah, it's in bad taste but then so is this genre. If you're going to go there, go all the way. SS CAMP plays out like a women in prison flick from start to finish and without adding anything new to the genre.

Shower scene #1...

Some thoughts...Did the Nazis always use dilapidated buildings? I thought they built their own shit. Oh, yeah, the film makers probably just found a run down cheap place to shoot. That's it.

I love how the doctors find it crucial to keep the subject topless when testing cures for burns.

D'ya think Col. Strasser's ready to get his roots done again? Not exactly the most Aryan thing to do.

Shower scene #2...

Hey, this looks awfully familiar...

That's because it was also used in the Nazisploitation flick Garrone directed a year earlier called, SS EXPERIMENT LOVE CAMP and with many of the same actors.

Say, what's with the bug eyes?

Thank you for reminding us, Sergio Garrone. We must never forget!

Sorry about that bug eyes thing.

It's your standard, by the number WIP film with the Nazi backdrop. The torture scenes are grisly (especially the tongue removal). The music was bad and there were absolutely no surprises. It's as middle of the road as a Nazisploitationer gets - not that good but not that bad. You could find worse ways to kill a Sunday afternoon with the kids.
