Toy Story 3 (2010)

Director: Lee Unkrich

Starring: The same cats from the previous films plus Ned Beatty

More Info: IMDB

Tagline: No toy gets left behind.

Plot: The toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home.

My Rating: 8/10

Would I watch it again? Sure.

I really liked the first one (7/10) and FUCKING LOVED the second one (10/10) so naturally I was stoked for number 3. I did see it in 3D but I got the feeling it really wouldn't have made much of a difference in 2D. TS3 was fun but it fell short of the sheer joy and fun of the second film.

For a bunch of celebrities, the voice work is great. I sometimes have problems with celebrities and animation because they were only hired to put names on the poster instead of hiring the best men/women for the job...you know, like people who do voice work professionally, the ones who really know their craft much better than some flavor-of-the-month movie star. But I digress...

Ned Beatty does kick some ass as Lotso, the evil teddy bear. But what I liked most was the scene toward the end where all is lost. The characters do something that had so much weight, something so beautiful and sad that my face was wet until the end of the film. It's incredibly powerful and it's a testament to the film makers for instilling in these animated characters with something that most can't do with live action - make them human.

I really dug it, and even though it's not the laugh-fest the second one was, it's got a lot of true emotion and some great moments.

Geez, I feel like I need to cleanse myself with something sleazy...like ISLA: SHE WOLF OF THE SS (1975). Now here's a Toy Story movie I can get behind...
